A LEAN YEAR
COMING PROSPECTS POOR
(Australian Press Association)
(Received this day at 8.30. a.m.) SYDNEY. Dec. 31.
According to the Sydney “Herald,” tin l year just closing has been a lean one in Australia. This condition is brought about by a combination ol adverse circumstances, notably lower prices for primary products, droughts intense, industrial disturbances, and a reduction of oversea capital used for investment in Australia.
The profits of companies have also Iveen generally lower, and in some cases heavy losses have been reported. The ne-w.4iMi.per predicts another lean year owing to the fact that deflation has simply been postponed by the high prices of wool and by the great amount of money borrowed in markets of the world.
