A ’QUAKE
SHAKES FLINDERS ISLAND. (Australian Press Association) (Received this dav at 10 a.m A MELBOURNE, Dee. 31. A severe earthquake occurred at Flinders’ Island on the north coast of Tasmania at 10.45 on Sunday morning. lasting three minutes. It came from the north-east and shook the houses, breaking windows, cracking walls and chimneys. Alarmed inhabitants rushed into the street. The steamer Calliboi. at the wharf, shook as if her engines were racing. STF. A AIER ’ S EXPERIENCE Judging from the experience of the Union Company’s steamer Kiviton. the earthquake had i's centre at sea. The captain stated all aboard ielt the submarine disturbance. The vessel was about thirtv miles south east of Cano Barren. The ship trembled and vibrated from si cm to for thirty seconds. Tt then appeared to lift bodily in the water.
