The “Guardian” will not be published to-morrow (New Year's Day). A dance will lie held in the Three Mile' Hall on Thursday next in aid of the Three Mile Tennis Club. The Lyttelton-Christchureh to Lake Mahnapua excursion on Saturday w r as not patronised numerously. The train stopped at Hokitika inward and outward to afford the Excursionists time to obtain refreshments. The visitors enjoyed the trip and were much impressed with Lake Mahinapua as an ideal picnic resort. The organisers propose to make up another excursion to Lake Mahinapua in February, clear of the holidays, when more people are free. The outing will probably be arranged for a Sunday trip, when it is expected 'the accommodation will be taxed fully.

Many West Coasters will learn with regret of the death last evening of the Rev. Father O’Hare, who for several years was stationed at Aliaura and Kumara as Parish Priest and left the Coast some nine years ago on transfer to Lincoln, Canterbury, where he latterly 'was in charge of Beckenham Parish. A native of the city of Belfast, Ireland, the late Father O’Hare, who was 63 years of age, spent about a quarter of a century in Now Zealand, prior to which he was on the mission both in England and Scotian/l. He was a priest of wide experience and sound judgment, and won the regard of all who knew him. Ho had been ailing for some timq with a heart affection, and for the past month had been undergoing treatment at Lewisham Hospital, Christchurch, where he passed away last evening.
