In connection with the statement that the slotted wings device has decreased the number of flying accidents and fatalities, during the period when there has been an increase in the number of squadrons from sixty-one in 11)2(5. to seventy-five, as well as an increase in the speed of the machines, a denial has been issued. It is pointed out. that apart Irom safety devices it is thought that one explanation of the improvement may |, ( l the fact that pi lots are now trained more slowly and carefully, and are led to regard Hying as part of a definite profession, rather than as an amusing sport. They are consequently less inclined to take unnecessary ; iskSi and have ceased to admire the reek lessons of some of the war-time pilots.
