1928 COMMITTEE

WELLINGTON, Dec. 29.

The Chairman of (the Nineteen Twenty-Eight Committee announced to-day that in accordance with a resolution adopted at the Conference of tlie Associated Chambers of Commerce in Auckland in October last, instructing the Executive to extend its activities and enlarge its central organisation, the Associated Chambers would take over from the beginning of tlie New Year the various functions hitherto discharged by the Nineteen Twenty-Eight Committee. The Committee always had le't that the Associated Chambers was the proper authority to undertake this work and now that it had made arrangements towards this end the Committee would cease its operations and its members would give what assistance they could to the new organisation. The Nineteen Twenty-Eight Committee was formed in March. 19.28, for the purpose of combating unfair Government interference with private 'business and the inequitable privileges extended to fet-ato and publice body trading concerns competing with private enterprise. It had achieved a very considerable measureof success during its campaign and would pass on to its successor a large amount of experience and substantial evidence of the progress it had made.
