Air MacDonald has managed' to put his Coal Alines Bill through its second reading in the House of Commons, but he had only eight votes to spare; ana this narrow margin is a sufficient indication of the strength of the hostility that the Bill has aroused both inside and outside Parliament. For the first time since Parliament opened, the insecurity of Labour’s tenure of office is fully revealed. —Auckland Star.
