OILFIELDS DEPORT. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) GISBORNE, Dee. 27. Taranaki Oil reportGisborne No. 1 well was cleaned out to 3052 ft. There is a certain amount of caving which is being overcome. A good show of heavy black oil residue. CAR ACCIDENT. WAJROA, Dec. 27. A motor accident occurred last night on Frasertown Road. A car driven by Victor Drysdule skidded while passing another driven by his father, somersaulting twice and throwing the occupants out. All were badly cut and bruised, Miss It. Drysdale suffered a broken collarbone. All were taken to the hospital. The car was totally wrecked. CHINAMAN’S DEATH. DUNEDIN, Dec. 27. Chin Sing. 30, a laundryman, after k meal yesterday complained of feeling unwell and commenced to vomit. On reaching the hospital he was unable to speak and died shortly afterwards. The Coroner has ordered a post mortem. CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP. WANGANUI, Dec. 27. The chess, championship results so far on the second round are:—Jeffreys beat Purdy. Pleasants bent Topp. Beter beat Fairbuirn. Gunderson drew with Rutherford. A DROWNING. LEVIN, Dec. 27. A young man, Waldye St. George, aged 27, disappeared yesterday afternoon while bathing at Otakai Beach. He was a member of a family picnicparty and intimated his intention of going into the water. He was not noticed by the others in the party and it was thought he was sun-bath-ing. in the evening he> was missing and bis clothes were found oil the beach. They rang the bach and the beach was searched without finding any trace. St George was employed in Wellington and was visiting his home for the holidays.
