BUSH FIRES

MANY RESIDENCES BURNT. (Australian Press Association). (Received this day at 10 a.m.) SYDNEY, Dec. 24. Go raid messages state that hush fires are sweeping over a huge area of heath country between Richmond river and the sea. The countryside lias been burnt bare for miles. Residences have been destroyed. Two men, a woman and three chi lure n had a narrow escape from death when a lorry in which they were riding, stopped. Fires were raging nearby, and the occupants were forced to seek .shelter in a water hole. Miles’of fencing have been burnt, and roads blocked by falling trees and a large area of grass country devastated.
