A COLLISION
TWO MEN INJURED. (By Telegraph—Per press Association.) TIMARU, Dee. 23. As the result*of a collision between a motor truck and the ChristchurchDunedin relief express which occurred at Winchester crossing this morning to young men, Horace William Westaway and John McAuliffe. of Milford, are now lying in Tlniaru hospital with serious head injuries. The men wore driving a truck containing pigs along the road at \\ inches ter. ’Apparently McAuliffe vlio was driving the truck did not hear or see the train and the vehicle crashed into one of the front carriages. The rear portion of the truck swung round into a. carriage and the machine was hurled with tremendous lorc-e against a, telegraph pole. The truck was completely wrecked. McAuliffe was hurled through the windscreen, and landed on the cattle stop badly cut about the face and head, but was concscoins when picked up. Westaway "a? pinned down inside the wreckage for some minutes. ONE VICTIM DIES. TIMARU, Dee. 29. The (Occident Which occurred at Winchester railway crossing (fifteen miles north of Tima.ru) has led to Horace William Westaway, aged 24, married, residing at Milford, losing his life; while John McAuliff, aged 19, also residing at Milford, remains in the hospital in a serious condition. Westaway died late this afternoon. The condition of McAuliff, who is suffering from a fractured skull and abdominal injuries, is serious.
