DUE TO SLOTTED WINGS. LONDON, Dec. 21. Owing to tlie Handley-Pnge slotted wing device, the air accidents in 1920 were the lowest for eight years. "Whereas there were 33 accidents and 51 deaths in 1922, with 370 machines flown by the R.A.F., there were 31 accidents and 42 deaths with more than eight hundred machines in 1928. Parachutes are a subsidiary cause of tbe reduced death rate. 'I bey saved sixteen lives in 192 n.

NEW ROUTE. (Received this dav at 8 a.mA LONDON. Dec. 21. The first air mail, over the new air route extension to Delhi from Karachi left Croydon, further saving twenty-four hours to Central and Southern India, and is due at IX-lbi on December 30. The extension to >Calriuttu opens early in 1930. Tbe Calcutta - Rangoon - Singapore route is now being surveyed with a view to a through route, thirteen thousand miles, to Australia.
