LOSS OF MANUKA
MAHENO TO REPLACE HER. By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, December 21. Owing to the loss of the Manuka the Premier announces that the Union Company are unable for some time to provide a second boat for the BluftMelbourne service. A conference has taken place between the Government and the Executive Officers of the Company., and the whole question has been fully gone into. The proposal, he states, is now that the Mjdieno shall commence from Mel bourne, on January 29, and shall pro ceed every 21 days to Bluff, Dunedin Lyttplton and Wellington in that older, and shall return from Wellingtoi direct to Bluff, and go thence to Mel bourne. This arrangement is to be to twelve months. THE UNDERWRITING. Wellington, December 21. Tenders are being called for strip ping the hull of the Manuka on behalf of underwriters in London. It is understood that London is not heavily interested in the cargo, which is mostly insured locally.
THE ENQUIRY. DUNEDIN, December 21. Mr A. C. Hanlon has been retained to act for Captain Ross Clark and Third Officer Carylon at the inquiry into the loss of the Manuka to be held here on January 7. Magistrate Bundle will preside.
