A BURGLARY. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Dec. 20. By forcing a window burglars entered a bootshop in the city last night and stole thirty shillings from a cash register and ladies footwear valued at £25 sterling. DISBELIEVING MAGISTRATE. AUCKLAND, December 19. When Stephen Joseph Bain said at Moriinsville to-day that he was bookmaking in a small way only, the Magistrate replied that he didn’t believe it, and fined Bain the maximum —£loo. TUNNEL STARTED. WELLINGTON, Dec. 21. Mayor Troup yesterday drove the urst pick for the actual tunnel work in Mt. Victoria Tunnel. When completed it will give access to Miramar, Hataitai, Tvilbirnie etc. The contract price is £133,000. It will be 104 oft. long and have an inside breadth of 29 feet.
