In the Commons, Mr Trevelyan in answer to a question said the extra charge for education together with, maintenance of allowances not exceeding five shillings weekly, make the cost of raising tlie school leaving age to fifteen years, live and a ball million sterling. Mr Alexander told a questioner that no official or semi-official communication bad been received from any Government participating in the five power eoniferenee, intimating a willingness to view favourably the substantial reduction of battleship strength either now or after a fixed period, though invitations to a conference bad suggested consideration of the battleship question.
