MURDER AND SUICIDE.
OR DOUBLE MURDER. (Australian Press Association) (Received this day at noon.) SYDNEY, Dec. 20. What appears to be a case of murder and suicide was discovered at Punchbowl, a suburb. The bodies are believed to be those of AVailace Ducie, thirty-two, and Jessie Smith, twenty. They were found in the scrub., A .week’s exposure to the weather and ravages of ants, have made the bodies almost unrecognisable. The theory of a double murder is not dispensed with. Both victims were shot through the temple. GOOD RESPONSE TO FEDERAL LOAN. (Received this dav at 12.2/5. p.m.) CANBERRA, Dec. 19. Mr Theodore, Federal Treasurer, announces that the approximate amount subscribed to the recent ten millions loan by the public was seven and three-quarter millions, which he regarded as being satisfactory, in view of the stringent monetary conditions.
