THE MALTA DISPUTE
LORI) STRICKLAND’S REPLY. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.] 51 ALT A, Dee. 18. The Premier of slalta, Lord Strickland, replying to the Archbishop of s!alta, denied that the British Government had refused to support his Government’s communications to the Vatican because of their alleged indecorousness. He had never sought an interview with the Pope, although the British Foreign Office had urged him to do so. Lord Strickland added: “The sfiniister’s relations with the Apolistie Delegate during the hitter’s visit to Malta were most cordial.” He was certain, he said, that no condemnation had come from the Apostolic Delegate. He said the “Aide 51emorie” which condemned the Government was the work of partisans, who had carefully cultivated and deceived the Vatican’s envoys.
