SOVIET RUSSIA.
HOLIDAYS IN RELAYS. [United Press Association.—By Electric Te leg ra pliCopy r ight. ] LONDON, December 16. The “Daily Express’s’-’ correspondent at Moscow says: Two and a half months ago, the Soviet Government invented a live-days'' week to enable the: factories and shops to open daily and to give the workers one day in five holiday, thus at once lowering the unemployment, and increasing production, while striking a blow at religion by abolishing Sunday. Every factory now has its staff divided into five groups, each taking a different day off, bu.t. though more people are employed, the production thus far has not foreseen the utter disorganisation resulting in social life. For example, the husband is off work on Monday, whereas the wife has Thursdays free. They cannot take their children to tho baths, as they are at school, and they will not be home until Tuesday. Thus the worker - has a free day, but he has no one to enjoy it with, so he goes to the Vodka shops. The wife, on the contrary, has to hire someone to look after the children ■ during bheir -holidays, as they do not coincide with her own. While the churches are empty, the Art Galleries and Museums are crowd- | ed daily. Thousands .of ; jpeople, of all classes, follow guides in an effort to learn about pictures and statuary.
