The two visiting Australian swimmers, Noel Ryan and Owen Griffiths, made their appearance in the High School bath this evening, and each put up a sterling performance. Ryan in a special 220yds invitation, handicap, conceding starts up to 22 secs., won by twelve yards in 2mins Slsecs. This is his fastest time so far in New Zealand, and is only three seconds behind his best Australian, time. Griffiths participated in a hundred yards invitation, and, giving away starts up to ten seconds, won by three yards in 57 3-5 secs, his best Australian time being 55 4-5 secs. Ryan’s improvement is accounted' for by the fact that since his arrival in New Zealand he has been suffering from dental poison, and he had'a badly decayed tooth removed in Rotorua. The Australians leave for Napier tomorrow morning. ,
