PAYMENT FOR MILK SUPPLIES.

ADOPTION OF NEW SYSTEM ADVOCATED. INVERCARGILL, Dec. 12. A conference of delegates of the New Zealand Dairy Breeds Association was held to-day. Mr H. J. Mar chant (Cardiff) presided, Mr Marchant said that the conference had been convened in order that tne present .system . of payment for milk supplied to factories upon a but-ter-fat basis might be discussed. The system was obviously to thresh the matter out thoroughly that day. It was necessary for him to dwell: 1 upon the injustice that existed, for it had been investigated very closely by Mr P. 0. Neale, the daii7 scientist at Hawera Research Lalxmator.v. He had devoted several years to his researches/and his results were invaluable. When inequality of pay : inept had been established, Mr Neale had endeavoured to devise some measure of calculation in order to arrive at an equitable method of payment. Mr J. P. Kalaugher (Auckland) then outlined in detail Mr Neale’s investigations and the suggested computation of payment. After considerable discussion Mr G. Webb (Levin) moved and Mr R. Peach (Canterbury) seconded the following (resolution —“That 'this conference, stresses the injustice of the present system of payment on 'a butter-fat jbasis alone for milk supplied for cheese

and casein and dried milk manufacture and urges that immediate steps be taken to bring in the system as recommended by Mr P. 0. Neale, the dairy scientist at the Hawera Research Laboratory, of payment on a butterfat basis with additions or reductions according to the casein far ratio of the milk.” The resolution was unanimously carried.
