TERRIFIC STORM ON ATLANTIC [United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.] NEW YORK, Dec. 15. The German liner Bremen arrived here late, with ten of her passengers badly hurt. The ship encountered a terrific storm. She rolled to the extent of 18 degrees. The waves were 120 feet high, and were the worst that the Bremen’s commander has experienced for 35' years. ' PROFESSOR. SACKED. NEW YORK, Dec. 15. The Baptist College at Birmingham, Alabama, discharged the Professor of Biology, who refused to accept the story of Jonah and the whale. PRISON PROBLEM. GAOLS CROWDED WITH IDLERS. NEW YORK, Dec. 15 Overcrowding and idleness are cited as the causes of the recent prison riots in the United States. The gaol population has risen by one-fifth per cent, in the last decade. One in each thousand.inhabitants of the United States is now behind prison bars. There are also many other thousands with sentences pending, with the wealthiest defendants released on bail. U.S. POLITICS. WASHINGTON, Dec. 10. The Senate passed the administration Bill, reducing the taxes payable on 1929 incomes by 160 million dollars.
