ABOLITION OF BATTLESHIPS

AROUSES DISCUSSION. [United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph .—Copyright.] LONDON. Dec. 13. The “Times” Washington correspondent says: “London dispatches reporting the possible British proposal for the abolition of battleships has aroused a dscussion, hut though President Hoover’s views on this subject are unknown,' it can be said the chief American naval officers will vigorously oppose it. They still regard battleships as the backbone of a fleet. Their views are supported by Captain Van Kewin, chief naval constructor, who will be among America’s professional advisers at the London Naval Conference.
