Alexander Allan Rattray, accountant, died in England at the age of seventy-five. Rattray was born in Auckland and was there during the Maori War. , SYDNEY’S HEAT. THOUSANDS FLOCK TO BEACHES (Received this dav at noon.) SYDNEY, Dec. 10. Unique scenes were witnessed at Sydney’s beaches last night. The temperature during -.the 'afternoon soared to niney-nine degrees. Thousands of people flocked to the beaches many bathing until the early hours of the morning. Twelve thousand sought refuge from the heat at Coogee’s shark proof enclosure. There were numerous accidents of a more oi less serious nature. Life saveis did splendid work.
