AMUSEMENTS.

EVERYBQDYS PICTURES BETTY C()M PSON—TO-NIGHT Betty .Compson, as a gay, pleasureloving, spoiled child of society; Betty as the sensational Creole dancer of the New Orleans Mardi Gras; and Betty, also, as the daring leader of an underworld gang! It sounds like a big order, doesn’t it? Yet Chcdwick Pic T turos’ Corporation promises that Betty assumes these three widely different roles in “The Ladybird,” which will he seen locally at the Princess Theatre to-night. William Dudley Pulley, who lias written more than a score ol original stories for the sciben, took enough time off from his magazine story aiu] novel writing to prepare “The Ladybird” especially for the star. Although he I fas written for more than a dozen of tho leading stars of screenJom “The Ladybird” is his first lor Miss Compson. Being, as who is not, an ardent admirer of the lovely Betty, he lias long been anxious to write for her. Undoubtedly, he had a selfish purpose in this, too, for perhaps no star of the screen offers the versatility of Miss Compson, which has permitted to Pulley such full play of his vivid imagination. Embodying a mystery story in the colorful background of the New Orleans Mardi Gras Carnival, “The Ladybird,” which Walter Lang directed, promises to be a photoplay quite unlike anything that lias ever before been made. Tn addition to Miss Compson, who, by the way, does not play the title role, the cast includes Malcolm McGregor, Ruth Stonehouse, Sheldon Lewis, as the arch villain; Leo. White. John Mann, funnier than ever, though without his famous moustache, will supply much ol the comedy. The latest in 'lopicals. Scenic and Comedy will also ho shown. Special selections by Ah' Bestieaux and liis orchestra.

Tuesday: George Bancroft in “1 he Showdon” with Evelyn Brent and Neil Hamilton.
