BISHOP CLEARY. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, December 5. The condition of Bishop Cleary, the Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland, who has been ill for some weeks, is now giving cause for anxiety. The last Sacraments of the Church were administered yesterday afternoon by Bishop Liston, assisted by -Monsignor Cahill. Prayers if or Bishop Cleary’s recovery are being offered in the Catholic Churches of the Auckland Diocese. AN APPOINTMENT. WELLINGTON, December 5. The appointment is announced of Mr Edward Kane, Clerk of the House of Representatives, to the position of Clerk of Parliament and Clerk of the Legislative Council, in succession to the late Mr A. F. Lowe. Born in Wellington, Mr Kane is the son of the late Henry Russell Kane. He was educated in this city, and, after studying law for some time, he joined the Parliamentary staff in 1886. He occupied various positions in the Legislative Department until he was appointed Clerk of the House of Representatives in 1920, following on the appointment of the late Mr Lowe as Clerk of Parliament.
