Westland Acclimatisation and Tourist Society

THURSDAY, DECEMBER stli. The monthly meeting was held at the County Chambers at 7.35 o’clock. Present: Dr Teiclielmami (President), Messrs S. Godfrey, R. J. Stuart, G. Howe, \Y. Rraddon,, R. J. Appleton, T 3. Kelly, E. J. Lloyd, A. Armstrong, and 1). J. Evans. Apology was made for tiie absence of E. Paterson and Ga root l’errv. The minutes of the. previous meeting were confirmed The outward correspondence was approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Under-Secretary, Internal Affairs Department. Wellington, acknowledging report regarding thirdlife in Westland, and asking for a further report at the end of March next.—Received. From same forwarding posters for distribution in respect to the protection of native pigeons.—Received. It was reported the posters hud been sent to South Westland. From same in respect to trapping, and the amendments to the opossum regulations, suggestion to be sent in as early as possible.Received. It was stated that recommendations had been made through the Societies’ Association. It was resolved the number of traps for each, trapper should be limited to 150.

From same with regard to the deer stalking season and the restriction on heads stating the remarks were noted.—Received. The Secretary explained the difficulty about tags. From Editor, Fishing and Shooting Gazette, Wellington, on the same sub-ject.—-Received with thanks. From Department of Internal Affairs. Wellington, forwarding copy of amendments to the trout fishing regulations at Rotorua.—Received. From Secretary, Marine Department, forwarding draft regulations to consolidate the fishing regulations pertaining to Westland, and asking for comment thereon.—Received. The draft was revised, and a number of alterations suggested to be forwarded to the Marine Department. From President, New Zealand Acclimatisation Societies Association, forwarding copy of correspondence relating to the control of wild life in New Zealand.—'Received; and consideration deferred for further particulars.

From Eric James, Dunedin, with respect to tours, and reporting on lectures.—Received; Secretary to plyFrom Tourist League, Auckland, forwarding printed matter. —Received with thanks. GENERAL. Messrs Ede, J. Keller, and S. Bassett were elected members. The Secretary reported the work required on Mahinapua Creek was being looked into by the Public Works Department. A (motion was caddied appreciating the work of Air Downs, as Stamping Officer for opossum skins, to be conveyed in a letter of thanks, and a fountain pen to be forwarded in appreciation of his work. A grant of £lO was made for a display of scenic views. It was decided owing to the summer holidays the next meeting bo field in February. DEER STALKING LIST. The following is the alllocation of the South Westland Blocks for the 1930 season.: — Block I. —Oliver Bros, Akaroa. Block 3. —P. H. Vickery and friend, Invercargill. Block 4.—McCubbin and Bodkin, Omokau. Block 5.—A. D. Kitto and J. McLeod, Wanganui. Block 6.—J. Forbes and friend, Christchurch. Block 7.—T. A. Clotiston and JMorgan, Oturelmn. Block B.—W. B. Gow and K. Richards, Whakatane. Block 9.—John Watters and friend, Rotherham. Block 11.—E. AT. Hutchison and party, Gisborne. Blocks 2 and 10 are vacant, and Block 12 is offered to Air Hutchison s party as alternative to No. 11. - A prospecting license for the Turnbull territory was granted to C. AL Harris, Huhuka. Applications will be received for any vacant blocks. The meeting closed at 8.30 o clock.
