GOVERNOR-GENERAL ELECT. It is as u Ltriner that the Governor-' General elect is test known, though, ” having graduated a-Master of Arts at Oxford and*, been admitted at,,-the ylnner Temple, he practised for’a number of years at the bar. His bent towards rural pursuits was indicated at an early age, since he was a gold medallist o* the. Royal Agricultural College and! a silver medallist of the Royal Agricultural Society. There was probably in his case an inherited pre-disposi- , ■tion towards farming, as his father, Mr Charles Bathurst, was a farmer before him in Gloucestershire. His active interest in agriculture has been combined with lively public-spiritedness as his prominent connection with farm-’ ers’ clubs, chambers of agrieulture, grassland associations, and agricultural societies plainly shows, and it was an. unusually well-trained mind that he brought to the performance of his duties as. parliamentary secretary to ine Minister of Agriculture in the last Conservative Government.
