SAFE-BLOWING. TWO ATTACKS MADE. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Dec. 1. Following on the unsuccessful attempt to blow open the strong-room of the Caversham Post Office, Crossen’s and Black’s premises in Crawford Street were entered some time on Saturday night and the safe was dynamited. Until a balance is taken the amount of the haul will not be known, but it is thought to be small. OIL REPORT. GISBORNE, Dec. 3. Taranaki nil report. Gisborne No. 2 well making iinal preparations for resumption of drilling. Kotuku No. 1 test hole drilled to 730 feet, ground somewhat harder. GANG OF YOUNG THIEVES. NEW PLYMOUTH, Dec. 3. For a fortnight past the Supreme Court has hcc.n engaged in hearing a long series of charges against a gang of young thieves, who have been operating in Taranaki. The last case of the series was hoard to-day in the re-trial of William Pcrcival Leonard Knight, who was found guilty on numerous charges of theft from eight postal boxes in New Plymouth, and four in Stratford, and of attempting to break and enter a chemist shop at Waitara. Sentence was deferred.
