BRISBANE, November 29. The cricket match between Queensland and the English team began today. The visitors won the toss, and batted first. The attendance was five thousand. The weather was fine and hot.
Gilligan and Duleepsinhji delighted the crowd by their batting, Duleepsi'nhji being particularly attractive. His all-round play and his on-side hooking were a feature. He batted for 62 minutes for 68 runs, and hit nine fours. Gilligan made 33, and hitsix •fours.
Ducat, the English coach in Queensland, impressed, but the others fell easily before the attack of Oxenham and Hunvood.
Oxenham, who is a test tour <1 certainty,” secured three legs before decisions, two of them in succession.
Barratt aroused enthusiasm by lifting Oxenham for six. The last nine wickets yielded only 40 runs. O’Connor kept wickets well. The fielding was generally fair. O’Connor and Levy opened "he Queensland innings, but the Queensland captain was bowled by Nichols.
