THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES.

A WEAK AND INCONSISTENT POLICY. With the concurrence of the Dominions Singapore has been singled out as a highly important link of the Empire, and the Washington Treaty was drawn up explicitly .to allow for the establishment of .the naval base there. The Labour Government at Home is acting; peculiarly, to. say the least of it, in seeking pretexts for the discontinuance of an undertaking in which the Empire is deeply interested. Where , the safety of the Empire is concerned, continuity of policy is surely a very 7 important requisite, andi there is only weakness and inconsistency in what a Conservative journal aptly terms those zig-zags of policy introduced by the Labour Government. —Otago Times.
