NEW YORK RAID

ON POLICE RESTAURANT.

(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright).

fßeceived this day at 8.30. a.m.) NEW YORK, November 28.

New York’s funniest “speakeasy” raid occurred to-night, when a score of regular city policemen were caught red-llan'ded by Federal prohibition officials. Flanagan’s restaurant in Grand Street is affectionately known as police headquarters. Annex House presented its, u?ual convival appearance after dark with police inspectors, captains, lieutenants, and several leading patrolmen attacking pigs knuckle and sauerkraut, uffiile Ifoaming schooner’s slid over the ..bar. There was nothing to indicate that the friendly calm of Flanagan’s which for twenty years has been an oasis for guardians of the peace, was about to suffer from the caprices of the ''American Constitution. Later, Flanagan and George Haller, his associate, were held in one thousand sterling bail. Two Government men posted at the door sternly told the chagrined police officials that the cafe was temporarily closed.
