All the thrills of deep-sea fishing were enjoyed at Bayswater on Saturday by a party of amateur anglers who set forth to capture ‘a large shark which had been observed cruising about hear the entrance to Shoal Bay. The shark had, made no attempt to molest bathers but it was decided That its presence was not a particularly good advertisement for the seaside suburb, so militant methods were decided upon. A shark hook, complete with chain trace, was. secured, and this, baited with, a large piece of stingray, ■ was lowered into the deep water off the wharf and made fast to one of the yacht’s moored in the bay. Watchers from the shore had not long to wait, for within ten; minutes the bait had been taken, and it was evident that the hook was fast. A group of enthusiastic anglers tailed on to the rope, and after some difficulty the shark was .dragged ashore. It proved to he a female of the “ grey nurse ” variety and was 7ft Gin long.
