JUSTICES OF THE PEACE

WEST COAST ASSOCIATION. At the annual meeting of the West Coast Justices of the Peace Association, held at the Greymouth Courthouse on Monday evening, Mr W. Meldrum. presiding, the election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Hon. H. Li. Michel, M.L.C., freelected) ; 'Vice,Patrons, Messrs J. O’Brien, M.P., and H. J. Bignell; President; Mr WL Meldrum, '■( re-elected); VictvPresidents, Messrs D. J. Evans, W. T. Slee and T. H: Lee (re-elected); Council, Messrs P. J. McLean and D. Tennent (re-elec-ted), F. W. Shallcrass, J. M. Bunt, M. J. Fogarty Kyle; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr A. Naylor (re-elected); Auditor, Mr P. J. McLean (re-elected); Other members who were, present were Messrs W. E. Reynolds, W. H. Parfttt, ,W, Clayton (Ahaura), N. Peat (Moana), and J. Hill (Dobson). The annual report and balance sheet as submitted were adopted. Mr Parfitt moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Naylor, who had done a vast amount of work as SecretaivTreasurer during the past twelve months. The motion was seconded b\ the Chairman, who stated that he knew, perhaps better than other members. the amount of good work M r Naylor did. Members received much useful information in the course of an address delivered by Mr W. J. Joyce, who spoke on the subject of “Justices of the Peace, - with remarks on their jurisdiction and duties.’’
