TRANSPORT BILL

WELLINGTON, Nov. 25. In order to remove a Avrong impression as to the effect of the recent legislation passed by Parliament affecting the Transport Department, the Minister for Transport (the Hon. Mr Veiteh) made a brief statement to-day defining the position. “I Avant to make it quite clear,” said Mr Veiteh, “that the neAvlyereated Transport Department is not being abolished. The impression appears to prevail in the public mind that the abandonment of portion ol my Transport Bill under the pressure of opposition at the end of the recent session means that I have given up the idea of a Dominion-wide organisation ef transport. There is nothing further from my mind. While it is unfortunate that some very valuable provisions Avliieh Avore contained in the Bill have had to he dropped in the meantime, it is my intention to recommend Cabinet to approve a comprehensive, measure to be introduced early next session. I am quite sure that the .public realise the need for compreheriy ivo legislation in .this direction, and, I am not going to lie dismayed hv a, temporary set hack such as I had to, meet in the closing hours of last 'session. That only means postponement of the reforms which 1 am quite determined to go on with.”
