IMPROVED FLAX PRODUCTION
BONUS OFFERED
WELLINGTON, November 23
r !he Hon. G. W. Forbes, Minister of Agriculture, announces that the Government has decided to offer a £10,009 bonus for any process which will effect a substantial improvement in methods of flax production resulting in decreased costs and improved quality. The Minister pointed out that Sir Joseph Ward in 1911, offered a substantial bonus for this purpose, and, although there were minor improvements, the old methods of producing the fibre were much the same. He felt hopeful that, with increased mechanical and chemical resources, and a greater knowledge of the plant itself, the bonus would lead to results of economic importance to the Dominion. Detailed conditions of the terms under which the bonus will be payable are to be framed immediately.
