HOME-MADE BOMB
FOUND ON HILLSIDE
WAIFII, November 23
A home-made bomb was picked up on the Martha Hill by a workman, who had a narrow escape from serious injury. The man was clearing off scrub on the hill, which has recently, been much improved in its general appearance by the efforts of the Beautifying Society, especially in the vicinity of Upper Seddon Street, when he came across the bomb. It consisted of a cocoa tin packed with a quantity ol four-inclv nails, in which had been placed a plug of gelignite, with a detonator attached. About 1.8 inches of fuse extended through a small bole in the lid. A. waterproof wrapping had been placed around the contents. The finder had been burning off scrub and had the fire reached the fuse the explosion probably would have been disastrous to him or nn.v other person in the vicinity. He pulled out the fuse and subsequently handed the bomb over to tlie mine officials.
