FEDERAL BUDGET.
(Received this dav at 11 a.m.7 ' CANBERRA, Nov. 22. The Federal Treasurer (Mr Theodore) i 'unexpectedly pnesented the Budget and Estimates of the new Government in the House of Representatives.
He declared the late Treasurer had grossly miscalculated the commitments and also prqbably. the revenue. Increased expenditure, 1 for which inadequate provision was made, totalled £807,340. Government /proposed to raise a further ’£885,000 by an increase in the income tax. The existing will be, increased? and imposition of a super-tax as follows: On taxable of individuals receiving £2Ol to £1509, 10 per cent; £lsOl to £3OOO, 15 per cent; £3COI upwards, 20 per cent.
The revised estimate was 431 millions or half a .million less than the Budget estimates.
The Government does not intend to levj’ a five per cent tax on the gross receipts .from . entertainments, 'yijThe excise duty on petrol' will be increased a penny a gallon. The duty will be increased on leather and rubber goods, motor cars, cotton and wool yarn. The recent inorense o)f threepence per gallon in beer excise be reduced to a penny,
