PROTEST AT SALE

WELLINGTON, November 21
At a' meeting of parents and sympathises some hard language was used over the action of the trustees in selling Scots College to Government. On their behalf it was explained that interest could not he paid to the debenture holders and depositors and the College was losing £1345 per annum. It was stated at least £IO,OOO would be required in cash'to carry on. The meeting determined to endeavour to raise this and negotiate with the Government to release the trustees from the sale. £3500 was subscribed in the room. 1 '
VICE-REGAL FAREWELL.
PARTY AT GISBORNE
GISBORNE, November 21
Beautiful weather prevails for the farewell visit of the Governor-General. A public welcome is being accorded this afternoon, with a large representation of military organisations, veterans, returned soldiers,' scouts, guides, and several hundred school children. Lady Alice Fergusson addresses a gathering of women in the Opera House later in the afternoon and to-night an official reception and farewell will be held at the Garrison Hall.

NEW PLYMOUTH, Nov. 21
The Taranaki section of the P. and T. Association, passed a resolution last night protesting against the £ICO allowance to members, while salaries and wages were not restored to the P. and T. service. The meeting recommended the executive to advocate an arbitration system for salary assessment.
COMMITTED TO BORSTAL. GISBORNE, Nov. 21
Three youths sentenced at the Supreme Court yesterday on burglary charges were before the Magistrate today on four charges of conversion of cars and were committed to Borstal detention for 12 months.
COMMITTED:FOR SENTENCE GISBORNE, November 21. Arthur Willoughby Bussey, aged 22, pleaded guilty .-at Ruatorea to the misappropriation of £lB5 from the Waiapu Pastoral and Industrial Association. He was committed for sentence. .
MAYORAL ELECTION. OHAKU.NE, November 21. A bye-election caused by the resignation of W. H. Handford (Mayor of Raetifii) resulted in H. Littlewood being elected Mayor with a majority of 2(1.
AN INQUEST-
DUNEDIN, Nov. 21
The inquest was opened on Jennie Edwards, aged 30, who died suddenly in the hospital on Tuesday. Norman Flavell Hayward, theatre manager of Wanganui, stated he was deceased’s first cousin and prior to going to Wanganui in September was manager of Everybody’s Theatre,, Dunedin. Deceased had been pianist at that theatre. At the hospital on Thursday evening deceased told him she underwent an illegal operation. When witness left Dunedin deceased told him she had reason to believe she might be pregnant. He regarded her as a sister and thought it was for that reason she confided in him. He had advised seeing a doctor in order to find out what the trouble Was. Deceased didn’t tell him who was responsible for her condition. There was no suggestion he had any relations with her.
The inquest was adjourned for post mortem.
OBSCENE LANGUAGE USED. . DUNEDIN, -Nov. 21
At the Police Court .Melville West, charged with using obscene language at a dance and with a breach of his probation was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment on each charge. The police evidenced accused used filthy language to women in a hall. He was not intoxicated but appeared to be of the larrikin type- He was admitted to probation ‘last year for being idle and disorderly.
METHODIST PROTESTS. CAMBRIDGE, November 21. South Auckland- Metluloist Synod unanimously adopted a resolution uiging the repeal of compulsory military training, expressing disappointment at the reappearance of art unions for raising money, and protesting against holding art unions in connection with school bazaars.
