FLOODS IN WALES
WORST FOR 40 YEARS. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) LONDON, Nov. 20. ■ Torrential rains have fallen in Wales, and have caused tho worst floods there for forty years. Tn many areas, numerous families suddenly found their lower rooms inundated. owing to the overflowing of the rivers and the bursting of dams. They hurriedly escaped in their night attire. There has been serious destruction in the Swansea area. Houses in the Tawe Valley were sunk in deep swirling waters, the householders taking refuge in the upper rooms. In Rhondda Valley, the police, in punts, ripped off the slate roofs from manv houses in order to rescue the families who were imprisoned in them. Albert Lucas, a sailor, aged nineteen, who was home on leave, jumped into the Rhondda flood to rescue a baby, whom lie believed had fallen from the arms of its mother. Lucas was swent away in tho sight of hundreds of people, and was drowned. Later it was found that the “baby” was a dog, which had wriggled from its mistress’s arms.
