SEEING THE DOMINION
AMERICAN OFFICER’S VISIT
WELLINGTON, Nov. 18
Colonel Henry D. Lindsley, of tlie United States Army Reserve, arrived ■in Wellington from Papeete by the R.M.S. Makura to-day. Colonel Lindsley was the first national commander of the Amerioan Legion, the national organisation of ex-Servhe men corresponding to the British Legion, and has been a number of times a guest of the British Legion in London. He served for a year in France in 191718, being on General Harbord’s staff on the Western front. “I have come here for the first time,’’ stated Colonel Lindsley to a reporter, “in the expectation of seeing a very wonderful country and a wonderful people, whom I have long admired at a distance. I greatly admired the men you sent to the front—none braver and none finer. 1 hope 1 shall meet some of them here. I will probably be in New Zealand about a month, and may remain longer. I am travelling leisurely. My itinerary is not definitely arranged yet, but I want to see your country fairly thoroughly, and hope to visit Rotorua, Taupo, the Western Sounds, Mount Cook, and other world-famous resorts and do some trout fishing. Big game fishing is a proposition I haven’t greatly considered yet, but I may give it a go. 1 shall probably return to New York through Australia and Europe. Being on the retired list now I can take my time about it.”
