CRICKET

VICTORIA’S AVIN

BY SEVEN WICKETS.

(Australian Press Association)

A! El/BOURNE, November 19

In the cricket match, Victoria versus AI.C.C. team, the play to-day only lasted for fifteen minutes. With 179 runs on for three wickets, and requiring seven runs to pass the AI.C.C. total of 852. Rigg (39) and Woodl'ull (93) resumed Victoria’s second innings. Rigg 'refrained from scoring so as to enable AVo'odfull to get his century. The last, over, bowled by Barratt, was an amusing one. Steady rain was falling, and the howler sent up full tosses, three of which Woodfull missed. The batsmen hit the last ball, which was an under-arm full toss, and the hall travelled to a few inches off the fence, the fieldsmen standing and watching the batsmen run four. Victoria thus won the match by seven wickets.

The amended total of the receipts for the match is £1,400. Scores:—

Al.cfc. TEAM CASUALTIES

C API’A IN’S SUG G ESTI ON

CHRISTCHURCH, November 19

At a meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council to-night, a cablegram was received from the captain of the English team, in which die.stated that, owing to a number of casualties having been sustained, it was extremely improbable that the team would he taken to Brisbane, as it was possible that if this match was played the English team would reach New Zealand a considerably depleted side. Captain Gilligan suggested that the Brisbane match be cancelled.

It was unanimously decided to advise Captain Gilligan that the Brisbane match must lie played, unless tiro Australian Board of Control agreed to its cancellation.

Mr H. D. Swan called suggesting that in the 1931 tour of England by the New Zealand team, one test match he played, and that this game be played at Lords. The Secretary reported that he had replied that lie considered it .advisable to have at least three, test matches during the tour. Tire action of the secretary was endorsed.
