CHIEF POSTMASTER.

WELLINGTON, Nov. 19.
Jn regard to the appointment of Mr Donald, of Christchurch, to the Chief Postmastership at Auckland, it is learned from an official source that though lie has had JO years’ service, lie is only 54. It is not mandatory to retire an officer before ho is Go provided he was efficient, and .Mr Donald is said to he most efficient, capable and well equipped to meet the growing requirements of Auckland Post Office. He is nq relation of the PostmasterGeneral’s.
JOHN GREY SAILS
AUCKLAND, November 19
John Grey, wanted on a charge of fraud in Texas, was a passenger for San Francisco to-day in charge of the sheriff. He was accompanied by his wife and children, and posed for cameramen alone and in a family group. He affectionately kissed his wife and daughter on the deck, spoke briefly to the children, and a few friends, and then went to a special cabin under escort.
The trial is expected to take place ii: Texas before Christinas.
