SMUGGLED DRUGS.
CAIRO, Oct. 1. The international drug ring against which Scotland Yard has been acting so vigourously in London has obtained a stranglehold here. Much done is being smuggled into Egypt via Greece. The Customs authorities at Alexandria have raided a large sailing vessel off that port, discovering tins of hashish and boxes of opium,, while from the sea, where the smugglers had thrown them, more tins of hashish were salved. Russell Pasha, the commandant of the Cairo police has formed a special anti-narcotic bureau to deal with the problem and is preparing to make a big sweep to the pedlars.- ' Meanwhile he is appealing to the public for support. He says: Individual family grief and family shame must be welded into a national determination to cure the country of this evil. He urges the educated classes to boycott and ostracise those who indulge in a vice that is ruining Egypt.
