The sudden death is recorded of the Hon Richard Bethell. This has again revived the discussion, about a curse which many believe falls to all who disturb the tombs of the ancient Pharaohs.

As Secretary to Dr Howard Carter, Mr Bethell carried out the work of excavating Tutankhamen’s tomb. He went , cheerfully to bed at the Bath Club early yesterday, after a game of cards, and later he was found dead, lying across the bed. , r lhe Daily Mail points out that he is the tenth person concerned in the work who has died more or less suddenly. The first was Lord Carnarvon. He began the work. His death followed on a mosquito bite, six weeks after he entered Tutankhamen’s tomb. Last year there were several mysterious fires at Mr Bethell’s Manchester Square mansions, which were stocked with treasures brought from the Valley of Kings.
