TWO FATALILIES
MOTOR-CYCLISTS lv ILLED

Show Day was marred in the city by a number of accidents, two oi which proved 'fatal. The names of the victims were—
KILLED. Herbert Heat tie Stone, aged, seventeen, (50, Hadley Street, Woolston. Edward Wilson, married, aged thir-ty-two, 60, St. Clair Street, North Beach. HEAD-ON COLLISION. Herbert Stone was killed as the result of a head-on collision with a motor-ear on the North Hoad, Belfast, at 9.30 o’clock yesterday morning. At the inquest, which was opened before Mr E. C. Levvey, Coroner, last evening, it was stated that Stone, who was riding towards Belfast, pulled out of the line of traffic in an endeavour to pass a car ahead of him, ancl ran headfirst into a car, owned and driven by Mr .Archie Bichard Mathers, of Saltwater C'reek, Scfton, which was travelling in the opposite direction. The motor-cycle tore the running-hoard and mudguard from the car. Stone- was thrown forward oil his head, and ivns killed instantly. His neck was broken, as was his right leg above the knee. The motor-cycle was badly smashed. Arthur Stone identified the hodv as that of his brother, Herbert Beattie Stone, aged seventeen, an apprentice to the printing trade. The inquest was adjourned sine die. TYRE BURST. Edward Wilson, a married man, aged thirty-two, and residing at 60 St C-lairl Street, N rth Beach, received fatal inji ries when the front tyre of his motorcycle hurst, whilst he was r ding o i the Waimairi Beach ycsteijday afternoon. :
At the inquest, held before Mr E. 0. Levvey, Coroner, yesterday afternoon Ronald Malcolm Bickerton stated that he and deceased had arranged to go fishing near the mouth of the Waimaknriri River yesterday. They started out, each of them on motor-cycles, but finding conditions unfavourable, they turned back. Wilson was riding ahead of witness on the beach, going to North Beach. Suddenly witness heard a sharp report, and saw Wilson being thrown throng!) the air. Witness dismounted, and, rushing to Wilson, 'found him unconscious, but still breathing. Medical aid was sought! hut deceased died without regaining consciousness. Deceased’s injuries were a broken nose, and a fracture of the base of the skull.
The inquest was adjourned sine die
