A REDUCTION OF WAGES

SYDNEY, Nov. 10
The Stiite Government lias officially announced applications will be invited immediately from men prepared to accept at the mines taken over by the Government, the rates offered, which provide a shilling per on reduction on the present wages. The coal to be sold by the Governmentwill be approximately four shillings below the present prices. Rothbury mine will be opened probably on Wednesday next and Cessnock mine a few davs later. '['lie Secretary of the Miners Federation (Mr Davies) stated definitely that the miners would be prepared to resume work at the reduced wages.
TWO FISHERMEN DROWNED

Two fishermen, Brier Soolsnuin. and Frederick Ericsspn, were drowned whe fishing, when the ves-el Elendra was wrecked near Port Gregory during a storm, A third man managed to reach shore on an icebox.

BRISBANE, November 10
Whether foreign capital should be permitted in the search for oil in Queensland is a subject of considerable public discussion consequent on a bill in the Legislative Assembly giving that right to foreign investors.
The Minister of Mines quoted authorities showing all oil producing countries permitted the introduction of foreign capital with reservations. He intended to safeguard British interests. The bill was read a second time.*
