CHARGES FOR GAS
A NEW SYSTEM
AUCKLAND, Nov. 13. A new scale of gas charges has been •announced bv the Auckland Gas Company, and will come into force on January 1. The flat, rate .system, of charging is to be replaced by a scale which provides for progressive reductions in the gross price and discounts for increased consumption. The company claims that under tiro flat' rate system the larger consumers have been paying more than a fair share of the capital, maintenance and service charges, and that those who for; instance only occasionally use a gas ring or some other small gas appliance do not bear their fair proportion of these costs. A minimum charge of 2s 8d a month is an innovation designed ..to meet in part such cases. It is also claimed that under the new tariff almost 75 per cent' of the gas will be sold at a reduced price, representing a saving of £6OOO a year to the consumers and that the remaining 2 : per cent will foe sold at increase.*ranging from Id a month a consumer to a maximum of lid to the consumers only using 300 ft of gas a month.
