OFFICERS FOUND GUILTY

CAPETOWN, Nov. 13,
The court found the captain of the “Hypatia” (wrecked on 29th. Oct.) guilty of a serious error of judgment, and the chief officer guilty of culpable negligence, and second officer guilty of contrinutory negligence.
GENERAL BIRDWOOD. FEDERAL GOVERNOR-GENERAL. (Received tliis day at noon.) LONDON, November 13. It is reported in well-informed Indian circles in London that General Birdwood will he the next Governor-Gen-eral of Australia. It is understood that General Birdwood has been twice previously approached, but refused on the grounds of expense. He has now decided to accept.
A CORRECTION. LONDON, November 13. Correction.—Lindsay was appointed Ambassador at Washington not Warsaw.

Obituary.—Sergt. - Major J. C. Rnynes, V.C, He had been bed-ridden for three years with paralysis and was unable to attend the Prince’s dinner. He did not recover from wounds and gassing aQ Loos, when rescuing wound ed, to one of whom he gave his own gas mask.
