DISABLED EX-SOLDIERS

AUCKLAND, Nov. 12

The tribunal appointed by the Government to inquire into the position of tne disabled or partly-disabled ex-sol-diers commenced its Auckland sitting to-day. It lias decided to call itself the Returned Soldiers’ Rehabilitation

Commission. Witnesses advanced claims on behalf ,of the survivors of the old armed constabulary force and of the military pensioners to increased pensions, and also that men who served in the South African War should be placed on a better pension basis. Major General Sir George Richardson, as chairman of a special committee appointed by the Auckland Returned Soldiers’ Association, submitting a lengthy report, its chief feature being the suggested formation of an ex-Service' Friends’ Association, to be constituted on the lines of the Corps of Commissionaries in Great Britain, and to he controlled by a voluntary Board of Governors, who would arrange suitable employment for members. The employment suggested was light employment in the Public Service and in private positions. The Commission adjourned until to-morrow.
