ADELAIDE, November 8

The M.C.C. team to-day began a match hero against the South Australian eleven. The South Australian bowlers won an early success against the English amateurs, who, winning the toss, hatted first in the match, which was played at Adelaide Oval. The wicket and the outfield were perfect. The weather was sultry. Dawson and Duleepsinhji batted •stylishly, and Turnbull played a lively innings. The other batsmen, except Nichols, could not cope with Grimmett’s googlies. Nichols batted forcefully in a last wicket stand, hitting two sixes. His batting was the brightest patch in England’s innings. Outstanding performances for South Australia were Grimmett’s bowling and the wicket keeping of Walker, who is a candidate for the trip to England. England’s innings closed for 168 runs.
