HOKITIKA HARBOUR BOARD

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER Bth. The Board met at ,4.30 p.m. Present: Messrs J. J". Mclntosh (in the. chair), Heenan, Richards, D. Stuart, and Dr Teichelmann. An apology was made for the absence of the Chairman. The minutes were confirmed and correspondence outward approved. VOTE OF CONDOLENCE. On the motion of the Chairman, the Board passed a motion of sympathy with Air Richards in his recent bereavement, members standing in silence. IN WAR D CORE ESPONDEN CE. From Butler Bros. Ltd., notifying disposal of part of tlveir freehold property to Flax Lands Development Ltd. and asking to have the necessary adjustments on valuation roll.—Received. From Signalman reporting the channel was in good order, running straight to sea, with 10 to 13 feet of water, the entrance being wide. Lately there has been a change in the course of the middle channel stream and as a result the scour at the signal station has been eased somewhat, but still remains severe lower down to the new wall. At this point the sea has been making inroads at the hack of the walls, checking the scour.—Received. From various, trade circulars, etc. —Received. From Alarine Department, forwarding copy of Order-in-Council making new regulations for harbour masters and pilots.—Reeeivecl. From Alarine Department,. Wellington, reporting the District Engineer had made an inspection of the harbour works and reported that some months ago about 80 feet of the retaining wall alongside the flagstaff was said to be swinging, the river Raving scoured underneath the piling. Since then the hole scoured out has silted up and at present the wall appears t safe. The position will be watched and should the danger reappear he will report immediately.—Received. Accounts amounting to C 24 -Is 3d were passed for payment. The meeting then concluded.
