DONCASTER, Sept. H> The yearling sales here this week have realised about £IOO,OOO less than last year, an unexpected result in view of the returning prosperity 'of racing. One explanation is that the Aga Khan and Lord Glanely, whose persistent bidding has accounted for some of the big prices of recent years, have now large studs of their own, and they and other rich men have not been buying. One man who has spent much upon yearlings now believes that it is foolish to pay large sums for these untried youngsters. His views, which lie has freely expressed, appear to have carried conviction. Most of the yearlings bought at fabulous pnees in the past have proved almost worthless for racing purposes. I think that the fall in prices shows that the general body of owners has no hope that the totnlisator will make any appreciable increase in the value of stakes for a. long time,
